One of the more enjoyable parts of putting together this list was going through the roster, and remembering so many great moments from last year’s team.  It is easy to say in the heat of the moment that you will always remember something, but here we are, closing on on a year later, and it is coming to pass.  Number 6 on today’s list, tight end Kyle Carter, has one of my favorites from the 2012 season.  Try as I might, I cannot find a video of it, but I think everyone remembers his huge 4th down catch at Iowa last year.  The best reminder I can give you is this recap I did following the game.

As for what Kyle brings on the field for the 2013 season, it’s the best pass catching tight end in the Big 10, and one of the best in the country.  A wrist injury suffered versus Nebraska kept him out of the seasons final 2 games, and likely kept him from earning the All Conference honors he deserved, at least from the conference coaches.  Seriously, the Big 10 coaches didn’t even include him on their 1st OR 2nd teams.

I am curious to see what Carter brings this season now that he is very much a known commodity.  He should combine with #9 on our countdown, Jesse James, to form one of the top tight end duos in the country.  When you add in Adam Breneman, Brent Wilkerson, and Matt Lehman, the Lions might just boast the deepest pool of talent at the position in the country.  And with Bill O’Brien’s offense, I have little doubt we are in for more than a few surprises in terms of how that talent is utilized.  Kyle Cater should be carrying the banner for this group all season.

Carter was still recuperating from his wrist surgery during spring practice. Although reports of his recovery are all very favorable, it remains to be seen whether it has affected his game or not.
