What a week it has been in Happy Valley. A couple big time verbal commitments, a high profile transfer, and oh yeah, there was football in Beaver Stadium. We had it all covered, and now is your chance to catch up on what you may have missed this week:
- The Blue-White Game was not more than a few hours in the rear view mirror when North Carolina ATH/WR DeAndre Thompkins told Bill O’Brien that he was committing to Penn State. DeAndre is ranked as an athlete by most services, but it seems pretty clear his future lies on the offensive side of the ball, primarily at receiver. Just 3 days later, the top ranked player in Delaware, Chris Godwin, gave his verbal commitment to Penn State. Suddenly, a class that some didn’t think would include a single receiver, had three, and the question was asked, is this too much skill in what will likely be a 12-13 member class?
- On Wednesday afternoon, news broke of rising sophomore quarterback Steven Bench’s decision to transfer out of Penn State. Once thought the favorite to start next season, Bench was told by O’Brien that JUCO transfer Tyler Ferguson and incoming freshman Christian Hackenberg would split the first team reps when the latter arrives on campus. Rather than list all the different things this means for Penn State, you can read all about what comes now at QB, including the possible roster replacement for Bench.
- There was a little football played at Beaver Stadium last weekend too. The quarterback portion is already out of date with Bench’s departure, but we’ve got plenty of thoughts on the action. Here are some post game thoughts, Tim’s take on this leadership debate, Eric’s student perspective on the spring game, and what I think I know after getting about 2 hours worth of PSU football.
Enjoy your weekend everyone!
