What To Watch For At The Blue White Game - Eugene Lewis

Happy game week! It may “only” be a scrimmage, but in just 5 days, football returns to Beaver Stadium, and Penn State gets their first look at the 2013 edition of the Nittany Lion football team. Leading up Saturday’s Blue White Game, we will take a look at one area to keep an eye on during the action. Pay no attention to the order, as all five are of (relatively) equal importance.

It’s been no secret if you’ve been reading VBR going back to even before last season, but I’ve been a huge fan of Eugene Lewis. I expected him to make an impact last season as a true freshman, but with the emergence of Allen Robinson, a plethora of tight end options, and the late season impact of Brandon Moseby-Felder, Lewis was able to take a redshirt season. Now, with a full year in the program, I can’t wait to see what he can do on the field.

Lewis figures to see plenty of action on Saturday with Moseby-Felder, and especially Robinson, entrenched in their positions. With Trevor Williams and Malik Golden moving over to defense, plenty of opportunities for playing time either as a 3rd receiver, or behind the two starters. It’s also worth remembering that while the Blue White Game is our only look as fans at the team, it is still just the last of 15 practices this spring. I’m excited to see what Lewis does when the lights come on, but even setting that aside, reports this spring have been very positive on his performance. Even if Saturday is not a huge coming out party, I still expect big things for Lewis in 2013.
