You probably remember the name David Williams from earlier this year. The highly touted 4-star running back from Imhotep Charter High School in Philadelphia had become PSU’s focus in this class at running back. The prevailing opinion had Williams leaning towards Penn State over the likes of Ohio State, South Carolina, and Notre Dame, among others. Then July 23rd happened. Following the announcement of the NCAA sanctions, Williams had all but eliminated Penn State, citing the lack of bowl games and championship opportunities.
However, over the last week or so, there have been rumblings that Williams was again interested in PSU. Those reports have come to fruition with multiple sources indicating that Williams will be on campus for an official visit on January 11th. Conventional wisdom would suggest that PSU’s strong 8-4 season, Bill O’Brien’s coach of the year honors, and recent run of recruiting success have all played a part in at the very least getting David to reconsider Penn State. The emergence of Zach Zwinak, along with depth players Bill Belton and Akeel Lynch also opens up the possibility for Williams to redshirt his freshman season, and still have two possible bowl and championship opportunities.
We’re still 4 weeks away from David’s visit, but this is certainly a name to familiarize yourself with…again.
