Penn State-Wisconsin First Half Observations Beyond the Box Score

Penn State trails 14-7 at halftime against the Wisconsin Badgers.

The Penn State defensive backs are not giving much respect to Wisconsin’s passing game. Roof is blitzing heavily and leaving his CBs on islands. Still, PSU isn’t doing a great job of stopping the run.

Wisconsin has over 100 yards rushing and Montee Ball is averaging 7 yards per carry.

The wind doesn’t seem to be as bad in here as it was outside the stadium but it’s gotta be cold out there.

Allen Robinson has one catch for -5 yards.

Gerald Hodges is wearing #42, which is a cool tribute to Mauti. However, the  42 that is on the side of the helmets seems to be a bit much.

Zach Zwinak has 92 yards. He’s well on his way to another big day, as long as the defense can keep it close.

Speaking of, the defense seemed to come out flat but has picked it up since then. Roof is showing a 5-man front to counter the Wisconsin rushing attack. It’s a sound strategy but once the Wisconsin running back gets to the 2nd level, there isn’t as much help.

Wisconsin has thrown just 6 passes.

McGloin has thrown 18 passes but has just 47 yards.
