While looking through the final game stats, I came across a few things that I wanted to share and I didn’t want to force them into an article, so here is an article dedicated to them!
- In the first, third and fourth quarters, Penn State had a time of possession edge over Temple of 31 minutes to 14 minutes. In all, it was 37:00 to 23:00.
- Despite their top two running backs (Belton, Day) being out with injuries, Penn State had two fullbacks-turned-half backs go for over 100 total yards. Michael Zordich had 114 all-purpose yards while Zach Zwinak had 106 of his own.
- Temple QB came into the game with 12 completions on the season at a 41.4% completion rate. He was 13-26 on Saturday.
- Three Penn State tight ends caught eight total passes while another (Jones) received a handoff. That doesn’t include the phantom pass interference call on Kyle Carter that negated a catch.
- Temple, a team built on running the ball, averaged 4.0 yards on 28 carries Saturday.
- Penn State has not allowed a point in the first quarter this season and has led at halftime of each game.
- The announced attendance of 93,680 was the smallest crowd since at least 2001, according to Wikipedia. However, the student section was packed.
- Penn State has scored in 9 straight quarters, after scoring in just one of the previous 5.
- Penn State’s four opponents have a combined 8-6 record.
- Matt McGloin has 1,006 passing yards in on 140 attempts in 2012. In 2011, he amassed 1,571 yards on 231 attempts. Also in 2011, Rob Bolden had 685 yards on 135 attempts.
- Next week’s opponent, Illinois, lost to Louisiana Tech yesterday by a score of 52-24 at home.
