Penn State was able to reel in another southern prospect on Wednesday night when Loganville, GA defensive back Kasey Gaines gave his verbal commitment to the Nittany Lions, according to BWI.
Kasey is listed as a three star safety by ESPN but is unrated by the major scouting services. However, both Scout and Rivals credit Kasey with a 4.5 40 yard dash which is solid speed at the safety position.
He camped at Penn State over the summer and reported an offer shortly after.
As a junior in 2011, Kasey Gaines reported 93 tackles, including seven tackles for loss. He also had five interceptions and 13 pass break-ups on his way to being named a first team all-state safety.
Gaines joins Neiko Robinson, who committed over the summer as southern defensive backs in the Penn State class of 2013. It’s clear that the Nittany Lions coaching staff is addressing the secondary as a concern and they’re going south do so. Along with Jordan Smith, there are currently three DBs committed to Penn State.
