The big news this week wasn’t a commitment to Penn State, but rather a decommitment from Ohio State. News broke on Friday that linebacker Alex Anzalone had rescinded his commitment to the Buckeyes shortly following a story about a creepy fan on the Ohio State campus. Alex confirmed to me that Penn State is in the running, but fans seem to think that Florida is the new favorite.
In a sign of the changing times, several Penn State coaches are embarking on the state of Florida this week to visit recruits and take in some Spring practices, something that is foreign to most northern high schools. Linebacker Michael Deeb, who I am a big fan of, tells me that he is expecting a visit from coach Larry Johnson. Also expecting visits are linebacker Freddie Stevenson, who is being recruited by Ted Hixon and the top cornerback in the country, Vernon Hargreaves, who is set to host defensive coordinator Ted Roof.
Another Florida player to watch is 3 star linebacker Nick Internicola who doesn’t currently have anything set up with Penn State but tells me that he is “very interested in them.”
There have been several players who have either been visited or are being visited in this time period leading up to the first Penn State camp on June 2nd.
Consider me one of the shocked people when we learned that PA quarterback Chavas Rawlins worked out for Penn State last week. Chavas is the top dual-threat QB in the state but also has promising safety skills, though he has said he wants to play quarterback at the next level.
Another player who worked out for Penn State was 4 star OLB/DB Delando Johnson. Delando told me that both Larry Johnson and DB Coach Butler were present at his workout last week and that it went well. Delando has really seen his recruitment heat up lately, as he was recently contacted by Alabama and offered by Wake Forest. Delando remains high on Penn State and I expect him to receive an offer soon.
