Another week, another commitment for Bill O’Brien and the boys. In-state offensive lineman Andrew Nelson was on campus Saturday and received an offer. The lifelong Penn State fan nearly jumped at the opportunity and committed the next day. A few people are concerned about him not being rated by the recruiting services, but there’s nothing to worry about. They will likely take a look at him now and he’ll be rated soon. My prediction: 3 stars across the board.
Also in town to receive an offer over the weekend was DB/Athlete Nadir Barnwell. The New Jersey native holds offers from Florida, Notre Dame and South Carolina, among others, but was very excited about the Penn State offer.
PA offensive lineman Dorian Johnson, who recently got a big bump in his ratings was on campus and reportedly loved his trip. I still think Pitt is the one to beat here, but Penn State apparently made some good strides with the 5 star player.
Alex Anzalone recently wrapped up his west-coast trip (USC, UCLA, Stanford) and came away with a unique offer from USC. He is hesitant to name a top 5 but it feels like USC, OSU, Florida, PSU are in the mix with maybe Notre Dame and Stanford. He was in Happy Valley over the weekend and will be attending the Ohio State Spring game this weekend. I’m really not sure how this one will play out. It feels like the recruitment could be winding down, but Alex has not indicated that.
Another visitor from last weekend was Pennsylvania RB Roman Clay, who tells me he enjoyed his trip and is already anticipating a return. The 3 star running back is awaiting his first BCS offer, but does currently hold a UMass invite.
Much of the news this week is about the upcoming Spring Game and who will be attending it. I hope to have a list up tomorrow for you so make sure to check back with that. Already confirmed is the entire committed class of 2013. They’ll surely be doing some recruiting of their own.
