After hosting a handful of recruits last weekend, it looks like April recruiting is ready to pick up where March left off.
I recently found out that Pennsylvania’s top linebacker, Alex Anzalone, will be coming to Penn State on April 14th for a visit. This will be Alex’s 3rd trip to Happy Valley in the past two months.
Joining Alex will be the top in-state OT, Dorian Johnson. Dorian was at the Penn State Junior Day. He was recently awarded a big upgrade in his ranking by 247 Sports and is now rated as a 4 star player. He’s also the top un-committed O-lineman remaining with a Penn State scholarship offer.
Anzalone was in Columbus on Saturday for his 2nd visit to Ohio State and left Sunday for a tour of California (USC, UCLA, Stanford). He has recently been to Florida, Notre Dame and Virginia. I don’t have a good feel for how long Alex plans to take, but the fact that he already has a visit scheduled to Penn State AFTER all these others should make Nittany Lion fans feel pretty good. I think Penn State is in pretty good shape here and I wouldn’t be surprised if Anzalone at least narrows down his choices following this west coast trip.
Dorian is from the Pittsburgh area and has been there three times since he last visited Penn State. They are considered the team to beat, but he hasn’t committed yet. Plus, he likes Penn State enough to at least come back. After recent OL losses to UM and ND, I can’t understate the importance of landing Johnson.
I’ll be asking around to see if Penn State is looking to make the 14th a big day for visitors, but with the Blue-White weekend coming just a week later, I expect Dorian and Alex to get some quality attention of their own that weekend.
