Weekly Penn State Recruiting Update

For the 2nd week in a row, there is no question about the headline of our recruiting update. The commitment of TE Adam Breneman will likely be the top story this week…and month.

Adam brought the commitment count up to four, joining QB Christian Hackenberg, DE Garrett Sickels and CB  Ross Douglas.

LB Alex Anzalone was on campus this past weekend for his 2nd visit in the last month. He got to spend time with the whole defensive staff, but he has already bought plane tickets to several other visits so a commitment is not coming anytime soon. He is leaving for Florida on Wednesday and told me he wants to be sure and “doesn’t want any what-ifs.” However, Adam Brenenam has specifically named Alex as a target that he and Hackenberg will be recruiting heavily. Alex would be a big, in-state get for Ted Roof’s defense.

I reached out to Va. CB Tre’ Bell and found that he has been in contact with Coach Strollo. He doesn’t have a PSU offer yet, but he has several others including Notre Dame and Michigan. He has tentative visits lined up to ND, Florida, South Carolina and WVU this spring. If one of those falls through, I would expect Penn State to try and get him on campus.

OL Brendan Mahon is set to visit this weekend. He was on commitment alert at the Junior Day, before O’Brien landed his current commitments. Mahon may very well leave campus as a Nittany Lion. For what it’s worth, I voted for him in our “Who’s Next?” poll… He is another player that Breneman and Hackenberg mentioned by name as recruiting targets, but he says that  “doesn’t really affect me. where ever you go, you’re going to get to play with great guys. Once i get to know them, then it might matter.”
