Tyler Boyd was in town for the recent Penn State Junior Day and was one of the players who received a scholarship offer while in State College. Tuesday night, I was able to catch up with the WR/RB/S/Kick Returner from Clairton, PA.
Over the last week and a half, Tyler has made 3 Junior Day visits and now has offers from Arizona, Pitt, Va Tech and West Virginia among others to go along with his newest offer from Penn State. He said the Penn State offer wasn’t a surprise, but that he was happy to get it, stating that O’Brien seems “trustworthy.”
The recruiting services have him playing either safety or wide receiver and I recently read about about a radio report saying that Boyd is potentially the best cover man to come out of Western PA since a guy named Revis. Despite that praise, the 6’1″ 175 lb. Clairton junior says that he is being recruited as a receiver, and that is his fine by him:
“I prefer wide receiver just because I love to score and I’m more experienced at wide receiver than I am at safety.”
Despite the recent visits, Boyd tells me that he doesn’t have a list of favorite schools yet, or any intentions of an early commitment. He does, however, plan on making it back to Penn State for a Spring practice.
