Penn State Adds State College RB as Walk-On

Penn State Welcomes YOU!

Slightly different than normal…but hey, with a boring signing day behind us, at least we get SOMETHING unexpected!
Last night, Ben Jones of StateCollege.com reported that Penn State has added State College RB Jack Haffner as a preferred walk-on.
At 5’11″ 215 lbs, Jack rushed for 2,143 yards and 28 TDs as a senior. That’s the 2nd highest in school history behind only Penn State and Kansas City Chiefs standout Larry Johnson.
Haffner had some interest from smaller schools but tells Jones that he couldn’t pass up the chance to play for the Nittany Lions:

“As a State College native, it just seems natural to play at Penn State. I grew up watching games with my family so the opportunity to play at Penn State, in my hometown, means a lot.”

His film shows a kid that is shifty, strong and doesn’t shy away from contact. Not a ton of speed, but could potentially see some short-yardage carries. With only 3 scholarship RBs on the depth chart, it’s possible that Haffner could be the next Penn State walk-on to contribute, following in the recent footsteps of Matt McGloin, Josh Hull, Graham Zug and Deon Butler.

Worst case scenario, I bet this kid can bulk up and back up Zack Zwinak at FB in a couple years.

This young man is all football! Good pickup for PSU. He can play D1.
