Penn State headed to the Ticket City Bowl

by Penn State

From David Jones…

Despite its toxicity to publicity-obsessed bowl organizers, Penn State will get a January bowl game in a big-city, warm-weather venue against an entertaining marquee opponent.

After being passed up by at least two bowls who would have snapped them up in a normal year, the Nittany Lions will be invited to the second-year TicketCity Bowl in Dallas and will face the University of Houston Cougars at noon EST (11 a.m. CST) on Jan. 2 in the venerable but recently refurbished 92,348-seat Cotton Bowl Stadium, according to a dependable source.

So it’s Penn State vs Houston in the Ticket City Bowl.  At the very least, Penn State got a good team.  Houston would be in a BCS Bowl if they didn’t lose Saturday so we did get a good team.  Although, the Ticket City Bowl is for the 7th best Big Ten team, and PSU got passed over by Ohio State, Iowa, and Northwestern.  Quite honestly, a slap in the face to Penn State.  Unfortunately, this was expected by many.

Since I’m trying to find some positives in this, it is on January 2nd (12:00 PM, I believe on ESPNU), which means January 1st will be totally devoted to non-PSU football games.  Good for my nerves, and just enjoying some good football.

As for the match up, Houston is going to spread Penn State out and throw, throw, and throw.  If Penn State sits back in soft zone, it will not be a good day, but I’m thinking Bradley will make some adjustments…at least I hope.  On the other end of things, Houston is terrible on D.  Although “terrible on D” does not translate a mass amount of points for Penn State this season.

Ticket City Bowl here we come!  *woo*
