Brandon Ware is leaving Penn State

by Penn State

Bob Flounders of the Patriot-News is reporting today that reserve defensive tackle Brandon Ware has played his last game in a Penn State uniform.

Ware texted The Patriot-News around 2:15 p.m. Tuesday, writing that he is “transferring for personal reasons. I don’t know where yet, though.”

Ware also added via text that he will “most likely have to transfer down (to a lower level).”

There’s word that Ware was made ineligible to play this season for academic reasons, although we don’t yet know for sure what was the reason behind his decision to transfer.

Ware is a mammoth defensive tackle who had yet to fulfill his potential with the Nittany Lions. However, with still two years of eligibility left and with his weight down to 320 pounds from 350, there was certainly room for Ware to carve out a space for himself on the PSU depth chart.

Not anymore. The good news is that PSU already has Devon Still and Jordan Hill, two more accomplished interior lineman, ready to start the season. The bad news is that the D-line position is now both literally and figuratively thinner with Ware leaving. There’s not a lot of experience behind Still and Hill, especially with Hill maybe having to spend some time at defensive end to compensate for the Pete Massaro injury.
