Penn State Recruiting 3/28/11

by Football Recruiting

Well, the week has been quite exciting in Penn State Recruiting.  Like I posted on my twitter, three commits this week.

-The first one this week came on Friday night as Camren Williams (6’2 210 LB from MA) committed to Coach Kenney.  Camren Williams is an athletic LB who could probably play the Hero if need be.  He’ll probably practice there like other LBs have, i.e. Mauti and Hull; but then move to LB for the rest of his career.  He’s in the mold of a Gerald Hodges or Khairi Fortt.  Very athletic, light on his feet, plays low, and shows explosiveness.  He did have a knee injury which is why he’ll probably originally ranked as a 3-Star, but I expect him to do really well in camps (If he chooses to camp) and have a big senior season.  He’ll be a 4-Star when all is said and done.

Like I said in my previous article, Williams wasn’t expected to commit, but if anyone was, it was going to be him.  He wanted to get the process over with, and PSU seemed to have the lead.  Give this one to Coach Kenney, as he did a very good job recruiting Williams and Reeves.  He visited the school once every week, and even when Williams injured his knee, he didn’t even scoff at not recruiting him.  Kenney isn’t LJ SR or Tom Bradley in recruiting, but the man works hard and is willing to go anywhere or do anything to get a recruit.

Also, Williams and Reeves have been best friends since 4th grade.  They have made it clear they would like to play with one another, but if they like different colleges, then they like different colleges.  Still, many recruitniks think Reeves (5’11 185 CB) is now almost a lock to PSU.  He visited PSU this weekend, and really liked his visit.  He didn’t verbal, as he wants to take his time and not just commit to PSU because his friend is going there.  I still think that when Reeves chooses what school, he’ll be wearing a PSU hat.

Williams’ other offers: Maryland, Michigan, UNC, and Virginia.  His father is Brent Williams who played in the NFL for 11 years with the Patriots.  His older brother, Brennan Williams, is a UNC OL.
