Penn State Recruiting 11/10/10

To start off we will go into the visitor recaps.

Albert Louis-Jean [2011 DB from Ma.] – As I said, currently is a Miami University commit.  Decided to take some visits.  One to Boston College with some friends, and now to Penn State with some friends.  Said he enjoyed Penn State, but is 100% solid to Miami.  But here is the deal…actions speak louder than words.  It’s tough for most 17-18 year olds to leave home.  Let alone home being 1,500 miles away.  But, the reported problem here isn’t the distance…it’s who the head coach at Miami will be.  Randy Shannon is currently on the “hot seat”.  That is why ALJ is making some visits, just incase a head coaching change happens at Miami.  Still, Penn State reportedly talked him into taking an official visit so anything is possible.  I wouldn’t hold my breathe here, but at the same time, Penn State still has a shot.

Armani Reeves [2012 DB from Ma.] – Besides for stating the obvious, he enjoyed his visit.  Said he got to talk to Coach Kenney and Joe Pa.  Joe Pa was making jokes about New England, they (Reeves and Camren Williams) said he was pretty funny.  Reeves seems to have Penn State in his top, and will surely be a large recruit.

Camren Williams [2012 ATH from Ma.] – Said the atmosphere was like “no other”.  Has a brother who is a Sophomore (I think redshirt) at UNC.  But, he is far from a UNC lean.  By the time Camren would get down there, his brother would already be a Senior.  Although he does have major interest in playing with Reeves, and Penn State is one of the schools who will surely offer both.  Williams probably won’t be as highly recruited at Reeves, just because he doesn’t have a definite position.  What I mean is, Reeves is definitely going to be a DB.  While Williams could be a S or a LB, just depends on the system.

Christon Gill [2011 DB from Conn.] – Really, a 2010 recruit.  Had major grade problems so went to prep school.  Grades have improved, and reportedly are at the NCAA’s standard so a PSU offer is a comin’.  He’ll commit right when he gets the offer.  But, PSU never seems to make things so cut and dry.  So don’t be surprised if Penn State’s offer doesn’t get to him until the end of November.

Desmon Peoples [2012 ATH from Pa.] – I’ve spoken about him before.  About 5’7 or 5’8.  Very explosive, and has awesome film.  Didn’t think Penn State would get too involved, but I was wrong, at least it seems.  People visited Penn State, unfortunately, he only stayed the 1st half.  Still, said the atmosphere was great.  Hopefully, we hear more about Peoples in the future.

I’m pretty sure I forgot to mention this but, Darius Jennings [ATH from MD] has dropped Penn State from his list of schools.  Pretty shocking.  I thought PSU was sitting very well, but he said Penn State just wasn’t for him.  Also, Conner Crowell committed to Ohio State.  But you would already know that if you followed me on twitter (twitter.com/itspatrickh).

Anthony Zettel [2011 DT from MI.] – He is essentially down to four schools.  Michigan, Michigan State, Penn State, and Iowa.  Just said Michigan and Michigan State have a slight lead just because he has visited them so many times.  Will be making his official visits to those schools.  Iowa Nov. 20, Penn State the weekend following, Michigan State the weekend following Penn State, and Michigan the weekend following Michigan State.  Penn State has a shot, as he was really enamored with his visit in the summer, but he is probably going to Michigan.

Byron Moore [2011 DB from Cali] – Prep kid.  Originally, a USC player.  Decided to leave, just wanted something new.  From other recruitniks (People who following recruiting likes its their job…but it isn’t), he is a UCLA lean.  But, a Penn State visit is set.  December 11th.  Oregon State, Washington, and Tennessee also have visits set up.  This kid would start in our secondary from day one.  Honestly, he is that good.  Could play the “centerfield” position, or could play the Hero.  Extremely talented, and athletic kid.

Delvon Simmons [2011 DT from Pa] – Another kid with some academic trouble early on.  Got it straightened out to the extent that Penn State, Florida, and reportedly Texas, all offered on the same day.  Simmons is 6’5 270, and has the frame to add plenty more pounds.  Anyway, has already visited Rutgers, Oregon, and Iowa.  Has two more left.  Will definitely take one to Florida, with the last one going to Penn State or UNC.  My guess…UNC.  With an unofficial to Penn State.  If you didn’t know, the difference between “official” and “unofficial” visits are the money.  For official visits, the college you are visiting, will pay your way there.  Pretty much all expenses.  While unofficial, it’s money out of your pocket.  So for someone like Delvon, who lives in Pa, it is a LOT cheaper to go to a Penn State game than it is to go to a UNC game.  Anyway, Penn State has a shot, but…I just don’t get a strong vibe.

Darien Cooper [2011 DT from MD] – Says he is going to visit Penn State, Georgia Tech, and UCLA for sure.  Michigan, MSU, and Iowa all have a shot as well.  I’m going to say Penn State and Georgia Tech have a leg up here.  He really wants to go somewhere, where he has a very strong relationship with the coaches.  He talked about GT DC, Al Groh (Ex-UVA HC), saying he liked his personality.  The other guy he liked was, our own, Larry Johnson SR.  Now, I could be wrong.  He could shock me and go to UCLA, but this is just a hunch.  Really, underrated kid as well.  Endless motor, tough, smart kid.

Allen Robinson [2011 WR from MI] – Comes from the same high school as Bolden.  Athletic kid, about 6’3.  He said the PSU staff told him he has a 95% chance that he gets a Penn State offer.  Which he said, he’ll commit on the spot.  I think he is visiting for the Michigan State game so let’s see what happens there.  I like this kid…just something about him.

Jared Ebert [2011 DT from Iowa] – Not sure, if this has been mentioned yet, but Ebert [JUCO…6’5 285] said Oregon, Penn State, and Oklahoma State are his leaders.  Just got an offer from Florida, too.  Props to the Penn State staff here…they were one of the first ones on him.

Patrick DeStefano [2012 DT from SC] – Already has loads of offers from SEC/ACC schools.  Penn State very much interested, as well.  Said his current top three where Clemson, Penn State, and South Carolina.  Supposedly likes Clemson a little more than the rest, but that is just speculation.  Anyway, could see a Penn State offer coming very soon.

Well, that is enough.  About 1,200 words.  I feel like I’m forgetting someone, but I went through pretty much every 2011 and 2012 recruit that Penn State is showing some interest in.  As for my article on the actual football, it’ll be out tomorrow.  It’s late right now, and I don’t want to divulge in something when I’m already tired.  I’m sure Ben won’t mind if I post something tomorrow.

Thanks for reading.  Check back tomorrow.
