Known Big Ten-Acc Matchups

by Penn State Basketball

As of right now the major Big Ten/Acc Challenge games have been released, and as usual the Big Ten may be in trouble (again)with the top three teams all going on the road. That being said, these matchups should be good ones and the Big Ten is going to be as good as ever next season. Here are the matchups so far.

  • - Michigan State will travel to Duke and face the defending national champs in what’s bound to be the most anticipated game of the early season. It very well could be a matchup of No. 1 vs. No. 2. and ought to be a good measuring stick of both squads. I don’t see MSU coming out of this one on top, but hey might start off strong.
  • - Purdue, a Top 5 team, will head to  play Virginia Tech– a Top 25 club. This game ought to give Ed a chance to scout out VT before they have to head down and take on the Hokies in person. Depending on how Tech’s season starts I wouldn’t be surprised to see them give Purdue a run for their money.
  • - Ohio State, another Top 10 team, will travel to Florida State. This actually might be one of the better games we know of so far in regards to the Big Ten. Ohio State looked bad without Evan Turner while he was injured and Ohio State will need to find itself quickly to have a shot at another Big Ten title. Florida State is a speedy team, so they should give the Buckeyes plenty to think about.
  • Illinois will play host to North Carolina in a battle of two likely Top 25 teams. North Carolina is going to be under a lot of pressure this year just to not suck again, but Illinois can be a very impressive team at times so it won’t be easy for the Tarheels to turn it around early.
  • Wisconsin will play N.C State in Madison which should be a good eye opener for the loaded freshman class NC State has coming in. Bo Ryan is losing a few guys, but he is also one of the few coaches that can coach the snot out of you until you play great ball. I don’t expect Wisconsin to lose this matchup.

On the Penn State side of things, we know that the Lions will be playing at the BJC.  Oppenent wise Miami, Clemson,Maryland, GT,Wake, Virginia, and Boston College are all left over. If I had to guess Maryland, Boston College and Miami are the most likely choices just based on records, but the magic that goes on behind closed doors is special, so who knows for sure.

Boo! Was really hoping to see Purdue play Duke.

  2. Would love it if just ONCE, Penn State basketball would play against a team like Duke or Carolina, just so I can watch the Lions in a game, win (haha) or lose.

    Thanks for the info!

haha, I’d love that matchup too. There were rumblings that we might pick up UNC just based on records, but it was a big long shot.
